Bahija
from Morocco picks strawberries in the Huelva region of Southern Spain.
“I can pick, I can lift heavy boxes. I can pick oranges, olives, walnuts, strawberries. Even rocks if needed.”
“When there are checks, we can’t say that everything isn’t good.”
“It makes me feel good to know that the others feel the same way.”
Around 15,000 Moroccan women work every year based on a recruitment agreement as seasonal workers during the strawberry harvest in Huelva. They come with a Visa, have temporary residence permits and accommodation. But that doesn’t protect against exploitation.
